Upward Path Institute Program for 10th Grade Families
For families aiming for selective colleges, the second half of 10th grade is a critical window. Junior year — the most important year in the admissions process — is approaching.
Many families assume the next step is simply adding more extracurricular activities. In reality, the right strategy is much more than that. This is when students should begin thoughtful career exploration that leads to conviction and start learning how to tell their own story — the story that will later appear in college essays and interviews.
All of this now happens in an unpredictable career landscape shaped by rapid advances in AI.
This session introduces Upward Path Institute’s mentorship model, combining admissions strategy, career exploration, college essay preparation, and easy access to internships.
Presenter: Vinnie Gupta, President & Co-Founder of Upward Path Institute and considered a thought leader in college admissions and career planning.

For families with juniors aiming for selective colleges, the next six months are the final window to strengthen a student’s profile before the focus shifts to college lists and applications.
Many families assume they can wait until 12th grade to seek help. In reality, students often miss key opportunities — using summer for checklist activities that don’t move the needle, delaying essay preparation, or trying to build a college list without the insight needed for holistic admissions.
In this session, we discuss how thoughtful families use the time between now and August to plan summer strategically, begin preparing college essays, and build a balanced college list.
You will also learn about Upward Path Institute’s junior-year program, featuring experienced admissions counselors and a structured college essay preparation program.
Presenter: Dennis Yan, Director of Counseling at Upward Path Institute; former Admissions Director at UC Berkeley and Purdue University.

Middle school is an important time to begin laying the foundation for high school, college admissions, and future careers. At this stage, many parents face important decisions — public vs. private high school, which activities to prioritize, and how to guide students in exploring possible career paths.
Students in 7th and 8th grade also need to begin discovering their own uniqueness and learning to tell their personal story — a skill that later becomes essential for college essays, internship interviews, and leadership opportunities.
This information session will provide an overview of Upward Path Institute’s middle school program and the strategic approach behind it — helping parents make thoughtful decisions about high school, activities, and career exploration while preparing students to stay adaptable in a rapidly changing world shaped by AI.
